While some cloud providers use the simplest, most low-end hardware, Logicworks says it built infiniCloud with reliable servers based on hardware including Xeon Westmere processors, 40G bps storage networking and the option for SATA or 15k SAS RAID 10 disk arrays. With Logicworks, those companies can keep such critical applications on the managed servers but offload read-only traffic on the public infiniCloud. Those applications are so critical to maintaining their services that the companies often want them hosted on dedicated systems like Logicworks' managed hosting service, Ziegler said. Logicworks is a company that services its client's various cloud management platforms with its operations that combine end-to-end tooling, visibility, and automation that the company is well equipped with the expertise that is needed for its clients to migrate, operate, and run at a scale on AWS and Azure. But Ziegler is hoping that the company has more stories left in it like its work with Cal Index, the multi-million user health insurance exchange that runs on AWS and was built with Logicworks' help. So the company accepted the writing on the wall and yielded the field to the much larger AWS, focusing its resources on building a platform for customers to use to deploy and manage their infrastructure on Amazon. "Any feature you could compete on, within six weeks they'd have an improved one," Ziegler says. The company billed itself as providing superior managed services, but it wasn't enough. Logicworks started losing customers to Amazon as Ziegler took charge of the business in 2012.
