She has done extensive studio work with artists in Detroit and Nashville, and is currently playing dates and doing sessions for multiple original acts in the greater Detroit area. She loves to entertain at private functions performing all genres of music with the Christina Kateri Band, which consists of a customizable ensemble of your choice, from an acoustic duo up to a 12-piece band. Working as a full-time musician throughout Michigan, Cleveland, Chicago, Nashville, New York and soon, Brisbane, Australia, Christina has participated in everything from solo work to a 14-piece band to a 50 member choir. Heavily influenced by her mother and Italian father's love for the sounds of Motown, including Diana Ross and the Supremes, Aretha Franklin & the Temptations, as well as acts like the Beach Boys, the Everly Brothers, the Ronettes, Etta James, Louis Armstrong, Elvis and others, Christina moved back to “the Mitten” to pursue a career in Detroit. She spent the better part of six years doing shows in Tennessee and Michigan with her singer/songwriter brother, Joe, while simultaneously working in marketing for Warner Bros. With a desire to better understand the business side of the music industry, Christina attended the prestigious Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, where she received her BBA with an emphasis in Music Business and graduated with honors in 2006. With lead singing roles as well as support vocals in the Broadway-style original production, A Common Beat, she was able to share a message of peace and understanding through song and stage in over seven languages, including English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Hebrew and Japanese. Growing up in a family of musicians, Christina developed a deep love of singing at an early age and has fond memories sitting around the piano as a child, listening to her grandfather play traditional melodies from his homeland.įollowing in her grandfather and mother's footsteps, Christina took piano lessons for a decade from a private teacher in southeast Michigan, before turning her focus to voice in high school.Īs a first generation American, Christina was thrilled to combine her love of music with other cultures and tour internationally with Up With People in 2000. by way of Austria, and carried their musical traditions with them. Due to immense suffering and abuse at the hands of the local communist regime, the family immigrated to the U.S. Christina Kateri's musical roots trace back to a quaint village in the picturesque country of Slovenia, where her mother was born at the end of WWII.
